Golden Jubilee of our Presence in India

On the feast of the Our Lady of the Rosary on October 7th, 2023 we celebrated the Golden Jubilee of our presence in India. The Holy Eucharist was officiated by Most Rev. Victor Henry Thakur, the archbishop of the archdiocese of Raipur and thirty-five priests concelebrated with him. Sr.M.Johncy welcomed the archbishop and other guests. In his homily the archbishop stated that Pithora is the Bethlehem of Medical Sisters of St.Francis of Assisi in India. After the Holy Eucharist there was a felicitation program. Our Candidates, our students from St. Francis School and Anjali Higher Secondary School performed cultural program. Most Rev. Victor Henry Thakur, Sister M. Margarete Ulager, our General Superior and Sister M.Diethilde Bövingloh, the provincial Superior from our German Province gave messages of appreciation for the self-sacrificing lives of our pioneering sisters especially Sister M. Vulmara Hanӧver, Sister M. Gerburg Aufderheide. We remembered gratefully Sr. M. Rosily Menacherry, and late Sr. M. Lucy Thaliath, the first native vocations of our Indian mission. A video presentation on the history of Indian Province was presented during the felicitation.

In order to make our golden jubilee a spiritual experience for all of us we formally began the jubilee year on November, 7, 2022. Every sister was invited to make a three-day pilgrim journey at Anjali Niketan, Pithora, our first establishment in India. During this year we read and reflected our Congregational and Franciscan documents. We observed chain Adoration to the Blessed Sacrament in our convents and everyone in the province attended a deliverance retreat in three rounds organized by the province. We thank the Almighty for accompanying us all through these years and we acknowledge the self-sacrificing lives of our pioneering missionaries.

Our joy doubled with the presence of our international guests from our generalate and our other provinces.
